Furthermore, Uyghur protestors and others who organised public protests in front of Chinese diplomatic missions in Turkey were detained several times based on Chinese Embassy’s requests. Rights groups warn about the increasing number arrests in Turkey against people who engage with political activism against China's policies especially towards its Uyghur population. Therefore, this Indicator deserves a "Yes" response.

The case of detaining Uyghurs in Indonesia and deporting them to China has led to speculation that there is collusion between the Chinese and Indonesian governments. Indonesia should be able to rehabilitate and provide protection to the Uighurs even though they are considered a syndicate of terrorists. Vietnamese government is known for arbitrarily detaining people who engage in political activism criticizing the local establishment. Occasionally, the criticism of China can be perceived as a potential threat against the local government, e.g. criticism of the Chinese political system, criticism of Chinese investments and industrial zones in Vietnam. Even demontrations against the Chinese territorial claims in the South China Sea are not received well as they are considered a potentially destabilizing factor despite the fact that the Vietnamese government itself objects and denies the Chinese territorial claims.
