However, the interpretation of the 'One China Policy' varies over time and with changing governments. The current government, led by Prime Minister Robert Fico (since November 2024), is pursuing a One China Policy that aligns more closely with China’s position compared to previous governments. The 2024 Strategic Partnership agreement articulates this stance on the One China Policy and Taiwan as follows: 'The participants reaffirmed their commitment to respecting each other's sovereignty and territorial integrity. Slovakia reaffirmed its firm commitment to the One China Policy, acknowledging that there is but one China in the world and that the Government of the People’s Republic of China is the sole legal government representing the whole of China.
