most donations conducted by the PRC during 2020 were related to medical equipment or protection implements. Even though these donations weren’t directed to charities, they are important to understand the relation between China and China. Therefore, we decided to consider those donations, related to the PRC, as charities, because the final beneficiary is a subject of charity. By instance, the person to which the masks were given.

Given the CCP's avowed, sometimes stridently expressed, atheism, not to mention Xi Jinping's various campaigns against both Catholic and Protestant churches in China, I can't imagine any UFWD or other CCP-related monies going into Christian communities or charities in the U.S. Ditto for Muslim groups, I should think. It's also conceivable to me that in densely populated Chinese emigre communities -- think Canal Street or Flushing or some of the L.A. suburbs -- there might be Buddhist or Taoist "benevolent associations" which would get UFWD support to take a public stance on an issue of PRC concern, or to promote a candidate for public office. In China, the national Buddhist and Taoist associations have been pretty well co-opted by the CCP, much more thoroughly than even the "Patriotic" Catholic Church or the "Three-Self" Protestants. The party-state Religious Affairs Bureau sees these Buddhist and Taoist traditions as "native" to China, rather than "foreign" traditions such as Christianity or Islam.

This appears possible but we cannot ascertain with certainty that it has happened. In most notable case, British tabloid newspapers reported that the China Taoist Association acted as a front for United Front activity in engagement with British charities FaithInvest and the Alliance of Religions and Conservation. It is not clear if a donation was made directly in this instance. In other groups checked, complete data was not available.

There are no know to author donations of the kind as defined in the question. I have not identified any significant cases of such donations during the period Jan 2020 – March 2021. The answer can be NO however the confidence level 30% , time spent =2. However the accurate response to this question is not possible as the churches and religious associations do not need to publish the full list of donations received. Framing this questions as YES/NO also leads to distortion of the image of situation between countries considering the scale involvement of PRC connected entities in financing the religious associations (e.g. Buddhist) in other countries.
