A list of members of the Belt and Road Industrial and Commercial Alliance (BRICA) can be found on the website of the China Federation of Industrial Economics. In this list, the National Confederation of Industry of Brazil (CNI) is included as a member. However, it is worth mentioning that in local sources, and especially on the CNI website, there is no mention to BRICA. The CNI was then asked about this partnership with BRICA. CNI responded that: "although CNI is part of BRICA, there has been no relevant participation in any initiative since 2017. We have been focusing our agenda within the scope of the BRICS Business Council, which has efficiently met the demands of the Brazilian private sector". Beijing has been talking (for a few years) about linking Afghanistan up to CPEC. They had even put some specific proposals on the table, but disputes between Afghanistan and Pakistan stalled them. This discussion has been re-started of late. However, it is likely that Beijing never saw Afghanistan as a real viable route of transit. As of 2020 “compared to most of the 63 economies participating in the BRI, China still does not seem to consider Afghanistan as an integral part of the project (BRI) and as an effective contributor country.”

In the academic field, BRI is an expression of opportunities. However, in the practice, China´s founding interest are not in line with Peruvian interest. The train road project proposed by China is related to a road that connect Peru and Brazil and passes through Bolivia. The project is stopped because this doesn’t provide guarantee to Peru. In this sense, China needs left-wing government leadership in Brazil and Peru to close the deal.

While historical linkages related to the old Silk Road are often presented as a bedrock for political and economic relations between the two countries, it is Uzbekistan’s energy and mineral resources, strategic location, and the market for Chinese goods that draws Chinese interest today. - Link Uzbekistan – China: Active Development of Bilateral Cooperation under the Framework of the Belt and Road - Link
