According to the interviews done by Prof. Lo Shih-Hung with the Taiwanese journalists who used to work in China, the Taiwan Affairs Office would monitor their whereabouts with surveillance on their phones, and to create some kinds of mental pressure on them. In the sensitive timing, the national security and police departments would contact the journalists and remind them about the "red lines" of journalism. When sensitive incidents burst out, such as the protests and crackdown in Tibet or Xinjiang (East Turkistan), the phones of some Taiwanese journalists in China were intervened whole day and could not do any interviews at all. During the echo of Jasmine Revolution in China in 2011, 3 Taiwanese journalists in China were detained for questions in Wangfujing shopping street, Beijing. In the master thesis "The Response Strategies against Governmental and Organizational Controls of Taiwanese Journalists Working in China", the author mentioned that, the Taiwanese correspondents need to gain approval of the local and the destination authorities in order to travel for interviews. This makes it difficult for the journalists to cope with accidents. And they would be threatened not granting the media pass every three months. The Chinese authorities would directly pressure the management level of the Taiwanese media to control the news coverage. Meanwhile, the physical safety of journalists is also at risk: they can be under surveillance, followed, "taken for tea", or forced to engage in social activities with government authorities. It doesn't take long for the Taiwanese journalists to learn the unspoken rules and avoid themselves from the interview of sensitive issues. And they would tend to censor themselves as the Taiwanese media might not be able to support their back when their correspondents get into troubles.

Bayu Hermawan, a journalist for Indonesian newspaper Republika, traveled to Xinjiang on a Beijing-organized tour in February, and wrote articles that cited camp residents who said they weren’t given trials or were brought in for offenses like adhering to a Muslim diet. Mr. Hermawan received a WhatsApp message from a Chinese embassy employee in Jakarta, saying he was disappointed by the article because it had errors and didn’t focus on positive aspects of the trip, according to the message shown to The Wall Street Journal. Around that time, Republika’s website faced a distributed denial-of-service cyberattack, according to two employees, making the website slow to load and inaccessible from abroad. Fitriyan Zamzami, an editor at Republika, said IT workers traced the attack to accounts in places like Bulgaria and Ukraine; still, he said, the timing was suspicious.

Absolutely yes, and increasingly so. Not only have many of the best journalists reporting in English from China been expelled from the country, but journalists remaining in China and their locally-engaged Chinese assistants continue to be intimidated by party-state security organs and members of the public. Intimidation ranges from physical surveillance to physical harassment to online slander and threat. Moreover, PRC foreign ministry and other officials openly vilify these journalists and their publications by name – a practice that gives the green light to Chinese citizens to further intimidate the journalists.

I heard that they detained editors and journalists of newspapers and magazines, akyns, writers and representatives of the intelligentsia in the Kyzyl-Suu Autonomous Okrug. But I don't know exactly the names and surnames. Since 1980, the magazines "Kyrgyz Literature Kyzyl-Suu" and "Kyrgyz Literature of Xinjiang" have been published in Kyzyl-Suu. Turkmenistan does not allow any free space in media to begin with. Thus, there are already no journalists who can engage in investigative journalism, or journalism in general. So, there are no journalists who work on PRC related issues, thus, no pressure is needed to be exercised.

We found no reports about Moldovan journalists being pressured by the PRC in any way. Moldovan media does not pay a lot of attention to China, so this kind of thing is unlikely to happen. The Freedom House report on media freedom in Moldova also found no such cases

No cases have been found. Usually this is a type of issue that would be flagged by the Dutch society/union for journalists (NVJ). The situation is different for correspondents in China, where the main correspondents are under the pressure of the PRCs censorship. This was a hot topic during the Olympic Games, when a Dutch journalist was assaulted around the opening ceremony
