As the report titled "Belt and Road International Media Cooperation: Refinement Can Be Better" revealed, media outlets from Turkmenistan are part of the Silk Road Economic Belt (SREB) Media Cooperation Forum. One of the Turkmen media even signed the joint statement of the Forum. The SREB is one half of the Belt and Road Initiative. Given that Turkmenistan has some of the worst-ranked media freedoms in the world, the few state-owned media outlets are authoritative, as the Turkmen public has no access to alternative sources. Since all Turkmen media are state-controlled and have cooperation with the PRC, this can be interpreted as a state-approved decision to work more closely with the PRC in media cooperation. This reflects Chinese influence on Turkmenistan's foreign priorities in the sense that the Turkmen state wants its public to know that the government is working with the PRC. This is significant in terms of the state's messaging, rather than the PRC actually influencing Turkmen media content.

In 2019, Dr. Iqbal Survé, the executive chairperson of Independent Media, was appointed to the First Council of the Belt and Road News Network (BRNN). He was the only South African representative among 26 countries and 39 media organisations. Therefore, this Indicator deserves a "Few" rating. While this appointment was significant in 2019, there is continued active involvement.
Supplementary Notes
The involvement of Dr. Survé and Independent Media in the BRNN was notable in 2019. However, we don't have current evidence of active participation or new memberships within the specified timeframe for this index. The "Few, insignificant" rating reflects the historical involvement while acknowledging the lack of current observable activity. It's possible that connections established in 2019 continue to have some influence, but without current evidence, we cannot rate this higher for the present period.

There are Cino-Italian owned publications or radio stations which seem to operate directly under the instructions of the Chinese Government. Therefore this Indactor deserves a "Few" rating. Italy is a country with high levels of media and internet freedom, with high levels of media resilience and media education. Therefore, this Indicator deserves an "Insignificant" rating.

They exists formally, though the info about them is old and in the context of the war with Russia and Beijing's position on it, attitudes in UKR have toughened significantly, including in the media. Pro-Russian media / journalists were silenced, and to a large extent this network overlaps with the pro-China one, as the source quoted below makes clear.

None Polish media listed as member of the following organizations: Belt and Road News Alliance, Stowarzyszenie Mediów Polskich (Polish Media Association) small scale organization has been for many years involved in promotion of Belt and Road Initiative in Poland and cooperated with the All-China Journalists Association. In June 2023 those two organizations jointly established “House of Polish-Chinese Journalists”. Journalists and Polish authorities warn about the possible disinformation operations that could be conducted by this new entity.Polish Media Association is also a member of Belt and Road Journalists Network. Therefore this indicator deserves “few” and “insignificant” rating.

The state-run People's Television Network Inc. as well as the Philippine News Agency is a member of the BRNA, according to the BRNA membership page as well as a July 2019 article from the PNA. Therefore, this indicator warrants a "Few" rating. As state-run outlets, however, PTV and PNA do not have a broad reach compared to its mainstream counterparts. Therefore, this answer deserves an "Insignificant" rating.

Numerous PRC media outlets operate in the US and are connected to BRI-associated networks such as CGTN, Xinhua, and China Daily. Some US news organizations such as National Geographic and Discovery Channel are also members of the Belt and Road Media Cooperation Union. Therefore, this Indicator deserves a "Few" rating. However, the United States is not a member of the BRI, and US views toward the BRI and China's foreign policy are broadly negative. Therefore, this Indicator deserves an "Insignificant" rating.

Only the Daily Mail and General Trust (DMGT) is listed as a council member of the Belt and Road New Network. Therefore, this Indicator deserves a 'Few' rating. DMGT's major subsidiary, MailOnline, boasts a substantial audience. However, the recent coverage of the Belt and Road Initiative by MailOnline is limited and not necessarily favourable to the PRC. The limited and somewhat unfavourable coverage results in relatively low significance, justifying an 'Insignificant' rating.

This text provides a brief evaluation of how the dynamic China-Uzbekistan bilateral relationship may transform into the synergy needed for the success of the BRI initiative. The analysis is divided into three parts. The first part highlights the overlap between Uzbekistan’s New Strategy of Development and China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). The Belt and Road Initiative and Uzbekistan’s New Strategy of Development: Sustainability of mutual relevance and positive dynamics is available at: Link's_New_Strategy_of_Development_Sustainability_of_mutual_relevance_and_positive_dynamics. The Uzbek regime has been actively involved in internet censorship, shutting down and threatening local websites, and blocking certain external sites. While their capacity to block foreign websites is not as comprehensive as China’s, it would be beneficial for groups offering advice on avoiding Chinese censors to consider Uzbekistan as a focus country. While the Belt and Road News Network has no information about its members, the members are all from BRI member countries, while Japan is not a member of the BRI, and thus Japanese organization is not likely to be its member. Japanese media is not a member either of the Belt and Road Journalists Network or the B&R TV Networks.
